A gunshot was heard in every ear. The next morning, the body of nine year old Carly Anderson was found in the local pool. The estimated time of death was 8:34 PM. Carly and her friends were at a pool party when the death occured. Dani DeGaulle, the lifegaurd of the event, called the death in. She claims that she was the only adult around when the death occured other than Chris Rochwell, a swim coach, and Carly's parents, Rebecca Anderson and Kyle Anderson. For months, Rebecca has been planning to leave Kyle but doesn't want to upset her daughter, Carly. Meanwhile, Kyle was cheating on Rebecca with his neighbor, Abigail Thorton. Abigail and her friend, Roxanne Tate share an appartment together next door to the Andersons' hourse. Roxanne, having just graduated college, hopes to become a model. To earn spare cash, Roxanne would babysit Carly and her friends. Roxanne's co-worker, Harry Chong, has been trying to help her in her career while juggling that of his younger sister, Samantha Chong. Samantha recently got out of an abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Nick Rosenberg. However, the police did not believe Samantha about the depth of the relationship because of Nick's sweetness. The only person who believed Samantha about the relationship was her friend, Nadia Sajelton, who is an art teacher at a local high school. Nadia is currently engaged to Jonny Schonson, who she expects to be a great husband and father to her future children. Jonny's ex-girlfriend, Lucia Rodriguez, is bitter and angry about the break-up. Having believed they were soulmates, Lucia is willing to do anything to get back with Jonny. Her friend, Ben Berryton had a one-night fling with Jonny, who is actually straight, and has since then been in love with Jonny also. Ben's best friend, Mitchell Michaels does not know about the fling but is in love with his younger sister, Charlotte Robertson, who is already married and uninterested in a simple construction worker. Charlotte's father, Thomas Mitchellson, is Carly's godfather and Rebecca's uncle.
